Grief and Loss

Counseling for Grief & Loss

As part of American culture, we often avoid talking or even thinking about issues like death, loss and grief. Experiences of grief and loss are some of the most difficult challenges in a person’s life and so it is my intention to treat clients and their grief experiences with the upmost respect and consideration. The grieving process can be quite complex and may take time and patience in working towards acceptance and understanding. I have never seen two people respond to grief and loss in the exact same way.  My approach in working through grief is often a very individual and collaborative process.

The overwhelming nature of the grieving process can sometimes lead us to find ways to avoid painful emotions. This is where avoidant strategies may come in, like substance use, food choices, overworking, over exercising etc. While these are coping strategies, they may also interfere with our ability to work through the grieving process in a healthy way. Grief and loss are a major part of the human experience which we all experience in some form at some point in our lives. I want to support you in gaining a better understanding of what you need from the grieving process so that you are able to move forward in your life in a positive and meaningful way.
